Migrant labourers’ shelter
Design Process
Voluntary Workshop
Site : Deployable structure; can be erected anywhere as per the need
Migrant labourers’ shelter is a product of an intense workshop – ‘Architecture in motion’ where the aim was to learn various methods of using lightweight and compact materials in assemblies that can be easily deployed.
This resulted into an inquiry of construction strategies that utilize prefabricated modular and dry joint system with repetitive components for economic transport and speedy erection.
Various explorations are done on materials, details, mechanism and assembly as a method of construction in building systems of shelter. Flexibility, adaptibility and sustainibility are the three main attributes that are looked into while designing.
The design process involved prototyping of each component of the shelter, thus experimenting with the materials available on site.
